5/10, N. Myrtle Bch – last stop in SC.  Great 2 days on Waccamaw River with winds going our way from Georgetown. Anchored overnite in remote creek.  Talk about wilderness.  Boat settled against trees on shore, bugs, strange noises from dense forest.  Tomorrow we tackle Cape Fear in NC an move on up to Swansboro, where we’ll stay for a few days to visit with some of Jane’s family.  Great trip so far; some sailing, lots of motoring (50gal. diesel so far).  Starting to get some taste of cooler weather when winds turn from the North

Shoaling and 6-7 ft tidal range continue to challenge.  Went aground again trying to enter a marina in Wilmington, NC.  Jane called a following motor yacht and asked for a big wake.  Two tries and we were free.  Water way into Swansboro runs through Camp Lejeune.  Three army assault boats, each with 20 soldiers in full combat gear, sped by us and we were instructed to anchor while they conducted “live-fire exercises”.  After about 1 hr, we got the all clear and arrived in Swansboro. Spending three nites here, great little southern town.

- We’re getting closer!, K

Swansboro to Broad Creek, 43 miles.  Anchored overnite in narrow creek off Pamilco sound.  Buggy with dense forest.  Took ½ hr to remove thick mud from anchor.  Broad Creek to River Forest (Manor), 40 miles.  Early stopover, 1 PM.  Hot, humid, t-storms predicted 3 more days should get us to Norfolk and prep. For offshore to Cape May.
